Not only do our Consultants offer a wealth of experience in their field, they also offer a welcoming smile and a caring demeanour, putting all of their patients at ease, making the process of assessment and diagnosis a more reassuring experience.

Our Consultants each have more than 25 years experience in the field of orthopaedics and they keep fully up to date with the latest evidence based treatment.

Their aim is to offer patients the right treatment for their problem, not just any treatment.

  • Mr Caspar Aylott

    B.Eng (Hons), MBChB, MRCS, FRCS, (Tr&orth), DM

    Caspar Aylott was appointed Consultant Spine Surgeon in the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in June 2010 and has been central to the redevelopment of Spinal services in Gloucestershire.  He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Nottingham University in 1993 and qualified as a Doctor from Leicester Medical School in 1998 with FRCS Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2008.   He has completed internationally recognised fellowships in Nottingham, Auckland (New Zealand) and Frenchay Hospital (Bristol).  In 2007 he obtained a Doctorate from Nottingham University looking at motion preserving technologies in the spine.

    He is a member of the AO Spine community and British Association of Spine Surgeons.  Uniquely qualified both as an engineer and spinal surgeon, he is well published in the major spine journals and presents regularly at National and International meetings.  With a busy independent practice based in Cheltenham,  seeing patients from across the UK, his practice is exclusively spinal, managing degenerative, traumatic, cancer and other spinal pathologies.

    Mr Aylott has three young daughters who keep him on his toes.  He is a  former cathedral chorister and an accomplished pianist, as well as a competitive racket sports player.  He also enjoys extreme fishing, windsurfing and skiing.

  • Mr Bill Harcourt

    MA (Cantab) MB, BChir, FRCS, FRCS (Tr&orth)

    Mr Harcourt qualified from Cambridge University  in 1990 and underwent higher surgical training  in orthopaedics at Oswestry Hospital. Shropshire from 1996 to 2002.  He  completed an internationally renowned fellowship in Auckland, NZ.  He has been a Consultant since 2003.

    After working for thirteen years for Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and a total of twenty-five for the NHS, Mr Harcourt left the employment of the NHS in August 2015, to undertake a consultancy post at The Winfield and more recently at the Nuffield Hospital in Cheltenham.

    Although primarily in private practice, he still continues to see NHS patients through the Choose & Book system at the Winfield Hospital.

    His interest focuses on degenerative conditions of the lumbar and cervical spine (back and neck).

    He believes that spinal surgery is the last resort in all problems of the spine and is happy to act as an advisor to decide which treatment would be best for your back, neck, leg or arm pain.

    Mr Harcourt enjoys spending his free time with his family and is a keen cyclist and oarsman.
